Our Story

Our Story

Nanola Wines is 100% black woman owned. It is a brand that carries elements of a personal story, family, culture and origin; given birth to by our founder, as a way of paying homage to her late father. The name itself comes from a mashup of the terms of endearment that our founder’s father used to call her; and have attached a meaning – “feminine strength” as a way of paying tribute to her late father.

Our founder, being of Nguni descent; the inspiration for our logo was drawn from the Zulu beadwork which is mostly triangular in design. The Nanola logo is, in part; a geometric representation of a Zulu love letter, “ibheqe”. In this context, it is symbolising an outpouring of love from the goodness of the soil, the grapes and into your glass – the exact qualities embodied in our wines.
Our wines are made in Franschhoek, though some of our grapes are sourced from outside the region.
